Beginning in November, the associates of Pulaski County High School's Future Business Leaders of America chapter started working and reading once a month with the children of Eubank Elementary. The goal for these high school students was to create a positive outlook on reading for the students, and to show them that reading can open a world of possibility and opportunity. Once a month members of FBLA make the trek to Eubank Elementary to participate in a few hours of one on one reading, interactive group reading, and literary activities such as word searches and plot diagrams. By setting an upbeat example for the kids, there has been a large increase in the joy expressed when they are asked to take part in reading during class. Through this project, the students of Eubank and Pulaski County have learned that with the right attitude you can accomplish anything.

Pulaski’s Future Business Leaders aren’t finished collaborating with the Eubank students yet, because on February 26th Eubank is hosting a “Family Literacy Night” in celebration of Read Across America Week. During this event all of the children, their parents, and the FBLA members will participate in games, literary activities, a competition for book character costumes, and of course, reading.
